Are you worried about caring for your child’s baby teeth? If so, our team at The Chicago Family Dental Center is here to help you! If you are doing the following things, you are on the right track:
· Before your baby’s teeth even grow into place, clean their gums every day with a moist gauze pad and wash cloth. This will help wash away the plaque that threatens your child’s smile.
· For children younger than 3 years old, clean their teeth twice a day with a soft-bristled toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste. However, we recommend that you only use a rice-sized amount of toothpaste as you brush.
· For children between the ages of 3 and 6, use a bigger amount of toothpaste as you brush, but don’t use any more than the size of a pea. Your child is more than welcome to brush on their own, but please supervise as they do so and make sure they do not swallow the paste.
· Once two teeth grow in next to each other, make sure you floss between those teeth at least once a day. Flossing is very important and it can further prevent tooth decay and gum disease.
