The Drinks and Foods that Can Stain Your Teeth

Do you want to keep your teeth white, bright, and brilliant? If so, then it’s best to avoid consuming foods and drinks that have staining particles in them. If you avoid those products, you’ll have a better chance at maintaining the beautiful smile you deserve.

Some foods and drinks our The Chicago Family Dental Center dental team encourages you to avoid include:

–Fruits and berries: There are multiple berries and fruits that can stain your teeth, including blueberries, blackberries, cherries, pomegranates, and other vibrant fruits. It’s best to avoid eating these fruits and berries as well as pies and juices that are made from them.

–Wine: Red wine has a dark, rich color, which means it contains particles that can cling to your teeth and stain your smile. Even though white wine is not as dark, it still has acid that can weaken the tooth enamel and make it more vulnerable to stains.

–Sports drinks: Sports drinks can erode your tooth enamel and affect your teeth. This invites stains to set into the teeth. It’s best to drink water while you’re working out and playing sports.

–Sauce: Even though they’re tasty, deeply colored sauces can discolor your teeth, especially soy, tomato, and curry sauces. It’s better to eat light-colored or creamy sauces instead and brush and rinse quickly after eating them.

–Tea: Black tea can cause many stains on your smile. In fact, it can cause more stains than coffee. Also, herbal and white teas can wear away the outer shell of your teeth and cause stains as well.
