You’ve probably heard of gum disease, and you may even know what you should do to prevent the problem. For instance, you probably know that if you keep up your oral care, you’ll be much more likely to avoid gum disease altogether. However, as you probably know, gum disease can lead to a number of serious issues.
Luckily, even if you have gum disease, there are a few options you should consider. Of course, our periodontist will be happy to examine your teeth and decide on a treatment plan that is best for you. Often, all you’ll need to do is practice better at-home oral care, but at other times, you may need a prescription to address your issue.
However, another option you may need to consider is gingival surgery, which is sometimes known as gum grafting. Though this treatment is rare, it can be useful if you infections and bacteria have damaged your gums.
During gingival surgery, a dentist will essentially replace unhealthy gums with healthier gums. Please note that you will probably need pain medication after this treatment. Similarly, you’ll need to keep your mouth as clean as possible if this is the option you choose.
Fortunately, if you have gum disease, you probably won’t need gum grafts. In fact, our team will usually be able to provide you with a more common solution. If you are worried about the health of your mouth, please don’t hesitate to give The Chicago Family Dental Center a call at 312.551.0500.
